Nav Deep, Nanpara
(1992, Lucknow Diocese)

Nanpara is one of the important tehsils in the district of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, located about 162 km from Lucknow and only 16 km from the Indo-Nepal border. The literacy rate and overall economic standards of the area remain comparatively low, which makes pastoral presence and social upliftment both urgent and necessary.

In response to this reality, the Capuchins, under the leadership of Br Peter Degli Esposti, purchased a six-acre plot of fertile land in 1992 to establish a permanent mission centre. This initiative marked the beginning of Nav Deep, envisioned as a place of light, service and hope for the people of Nanpara and its surrounding villages.

The friary of Nav Deep is located amidst thickly populated villages composed mainly of Hindu and Muslim communities. Within this predominantly non-Christian environment, there are about fifteen Christian families and two Catholic families, forming a small but vibrant faith community.

The local people’s primary needs are literacy, basic health care and better hygiene practices. These needs have shaped the vision and ministries of the friars, who strive to be a fraternal and approachable presence, sharing the Gospel through education, witness and service.

Recognizing education as the most effective path to long-term transformation, the friars discerned the need for a quality English-medium school. The foundation stone for this school was laid on 25 May 1994 by the District Magistrate of Bahraich and blessed by Rt Rev Albert D’Souza, then Bishop of Lucknow.

Over the years, the school has steadily grown and today has been elevated to an Inter College, offering education up to class 12. Through this institution, Nav Deep has become a Centre of hope for families who desire a better future for their children, irrespective of caste, creed or economic background.
