St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fagu fraternity, is situated in a beautiful mountainous region in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, nestled within a tea garden. The small church inside the Fagu tea estate was erected as a parish in 1955 and was initially entrusted to diocesan priests.​

At the invitation of the Bishop of Darjeeling, Br Philip Lakra, OFM Cap., and Br Paul Nag, OFM Cap., were sent in December 2008 by Br John B. Barla, OFM Cap., then Provincial Minister, to meet the Bishop and identify a suitable mission station in the diocese. Following this visit and further discernment, the parish of Fagu was selected and officially entrusted to the care of the Capuchins of St Fidelis Province on 22 June 2009.​

Br Simon Xalxo, OFM Cap., and Br Boniface Vijayan Menezes, OFM Cap., were the first Capuchin friars to begin the mission at Fagu. Br Simon was appointed parish priest, and Br Boniface Vijayan was designated as co-pastor, marking the formal beginning of the Capuchin presence and pastoral ministry in this parish.​

In accordance with the ecclesial agreement with the Diocese of Darjeeling, the Capuchin friars offer spiritual assistance to the faithful of the parish. The friars residing in this friary dedicate themselves entirely to the pastoral and sacramental needs of the people, especially those working in the surrounding tea estate.​

Most of the parishioners belong to tribal communities and earn their livelihood as daily labourers in the tea gardens. Through their presence and ministry, the Capuchin friars strive to accompany them in faith, support their spiritual growth, and uphold their dignity in challenging socio-economic conditions.​
